Frank Worsley (1872–1943), the Endurance’s captain, was a highly skilled navigator. His precise seamanship guided the small boat James Caird across the Southern Ocean to South Georgia and helped steer the crossing through the island’s interior.

Tom Crean (1877–1938) was an experienced Irish seaman and Antarctic veteran. Quietly formidable, he played a crucial role in the hardest phases of the journey, including the trek across South Georgia, where endurance and strength were as vital as navigation.
